The Dirtier the Better! Right? Well, not really... (the truth about today's color)
I am frequently asked, when it comes to color, which is best....dirty or clean. Here's the scoop... Haircolor has come a long way since our Mother's day. Yesterday's haircolor contained high levels of ammonia which allowed for the penetration of the hair cuticle regardless of oils and product residue. Not true for today's haircolor. With improved studies on hair anatomy and more gentle ingredients, today's haircolor is better when used on clean, dry hair. This is especially true when the client has a high percentage of grey hair. Grey hair is, in itself, more difficult to cover. With the addition of oils and product residue, your colorist may not be able to adequately cover your grey.
